STEPS Meet-the-Expert Session opens for new applications

With the aim to boost links with promising young clinicians specialising in urological cancers, the EAU Section of Oncological Urology (ESOU) has developed the STEPS programme (Sessions To Evaluate ProgresS in the  management of urological cancers). Piloted in 2011, STEPS will celebrate its 9th Anniversary in January 2019 at the 16th ESOU Meeting in Prague.

What is the STEPS programme?

STEPS programme Sessions To Evaluate ProgresS in the management of urological cancers

Twenty young clinicians who are already practising, or who have a firm career interest in onco-urology are selected annually through an open application process to meet established experts in the fields of prostate, bladder, renal and testicular cancer. Since its inception in 2011, many young clinicians have already enjoyed this unique learning and networking experience, with feedback being overwhelmingly positive.

“We discussed not only the clinical aspects but also research opportunities, experiences in daily practice. All in all, it was a wonderful chance to acquire new perspectives regarding a career in onco-urology”  Michaela Kniess, Germany.

With unrestricted educational support from Ipsen, STEPS allows young clinicians to take part in a three-hour closed-door case discussion which aims to:

  • Offer an innovative educational opportunity to selected young clinicians
  • Strengthen ties between ESOU and talented younger clinicians in onco-urology
  • Boost the participant’s professional network with both established and emerging experts in onco-urology

“STEPS is a very helpful programme that provides fresh insights, and which can further inspire young uro-oncology specialists in their practice”  Anton Breeuwsma, The Netherlands.

“We are happy to introduce these young doctors to senior experts, and help them expand their learning and professional opportunities” ESOU chairman Prof. Maurizio Brausi.
